A not-so-glamorous guide to where I’ve stayed, strayed, and occasionally thrived.
Welcome to Around the World in 80 Stays — a travel blog that doesn’t pretend every night ends with a cocktail under fairy lights. Sometimes it ends with damp socks and a questionable pillow.
I’m Stefan, the semi-organised, often-sleep-deprived explorer behind this site. I started this blog to track the places I sleep, the cities I stroll through, and the unexpected joy (or disaster) found in the little moments between.
So, what is this blog about?
Glad you asked.
It’s part travel journal, part survival log, part review site. I’ll be sharing:
- Accommodation reviews – from hostels to hammocks, hotels to hillside tents
- City & country experiences – what to expect, where to wander, and where I left early
- Stays that surprised me – good, bad, or gloriously bizarre
- Tips & rambles – real-world advice, unfiltered stories, and maps that may or may not be accurate
This is the good, the bad, and the “how did I end up sleeping here?” side of travel. You’ll get honest takes, honest photos, and probably more mention of broken zips than you’d expect.
Why “80 Stays”?
Because every destination starts and ends with somewhere to stay. Whether it’s a five-star spa or a 2am check-in next to a rooster farm, each stay tells a story — and I plan to share at least 80 of them (and probably more).
This blog is about the places I’ve laid my head and the chaos, charm, and character that came with them.
How I Rate the Madness
Everything I review gets a score — not just because it’s fun, but because it’s helpful.
🛏️ Stays (Hostels, Hotels, Huts)
- Comfort & Cleanliness – Sleep like royalty or twitch like a squirrel?
- Location & Access – Central hub or up a hill with no signal?
- Atmosphere & Character – Vibe check: passed or failed?
- Value for Money – Worth every penny or “I paid how much?”
🌆 City & Country Stops
- Energy & Culture – Bustling and brilliant or beige and boring?
- Things to Do – Walks, views, eats, and oddities
- Affordability – Can I get lunch without selling my socks?
- Overall Feel – Would I go back or just say I did?
Score: Out of 10 — with commentary. If it rained the whole time or I made new friends at the laundrette, you’ll hear about it.
